What is Hypnosis?

Hypnosis can be described as...

A state of deep mental and physical relaxation. In this state the subconscious easily accepts suggestions and imagery.

Anytime we narrow our focus, we enter into an altered state of consciousness. When we’re more focused on our internal emotional or physical state, and less aware of our outer surroundings, we are in hypnosis. Examples include being absorbed in a good book or movie, when we’ve driven our car the last few blocks home without realizing how we got there, or whenever we have been on “automatic pilot".

We pass through a hypnotic state as we fall asleep at night and as we wake up each morning. Therefore, we’ve been in hypnosis daily without even realizing it.

Subconscious vs.
conscious mind?

The role of the subconscious mind is to store "experiences", run our autonomic nervous system, control bodily functions such as heart rate, blood pressure, and respiration. The subconscious never sleeps and can, will and must act out any image, idea or concept that you allow to be imprinted.

The conscious mind looks, listens, learns, reasons, judges, analyzes, and criticizes. The conscious mind is able to accept or reject an idea or concept. After age nine, the conscious mind is able to filter what goes into the subconscious.

Approximately 95% of your function comes from the subconscious mind, while only 5% is from our conscious mind. Therefore, tapping into our subconscious mind can be a very powerful tool to gain insights and change patterns that no longer serve you.

How hypnosis works?

Hypnosis creates a bridge from the conscious to the subconscious so we can tap into that tremendous power.

When we open our subconscious mind, we can access the root of a problem. We can recall memories that aren’t accessible to the conscious mind. We can change habits and beliefs by going into the subconscious. Our memories are partly fact, partly fiction and partly perception. This is why you can share childhood memories with your siblings and your experiences are very different. It's what you make of a situation that forms your beliefs. You may have heard the expression whatever you believe to be true or false, you're right. Therefore, decide what you'd like your truth to be with the power of hypnosis.

The key difference between hypnosis and meditation lies in intention. In hypnosis, you work to achieve a specific goal, either with a guide or on your own. With meditation the practice cultivates a person's sense of self-awareness and being in the moment.

In hypnosis, you are not asleep or unconscious. Your conscious mind is always aware of what you’re experiencing. You will remember everything experienced during your session.

15 minutes spent in hypnosis equals an hour of deep, restful sleep. We accomplish twice as much work when we're relaxed. It raises our pain threshold, elevates serotonin - creating a feeling of well being and reduces one's biological age.
You’re always in control of what you say. Hypnosis is not a “truth serum.” â€‹You will not violate your moral or ethical principles. You can come out of hypnosis whenever you want.

You will experience at least one of these signs:

  1. So relaxed you don’t want to move a muscle

  2. Feeling of heaviness, or lightness, especially in your arms and legs

  3. Feeling of numbness, tingling, or dullness in your feet or hands

  4. Feeling as if you’re floating

  5. Feeling so detached from your surroundings, you feel quite distant

  6. Time distortion

Hypnosis is considered to be a safe when performed by a trained practitioner.
Anyone who allows themselves to engage in the process can be hypnotized. A qualified hypnotist uses a variety of techniques and the level of trance each person reaches can vary person-to-person. Typically the more you practice the easier it is to achieve deeper levels of trance.
